DYK that the word Budgerigar is derived from a Gamilaraay language word ‘Betcherrygah’ meaning ‘good food’? It’s unknown whether this means that the bird itself is good eating, or their seed-seeking migrations led Gamilaraay people to places of rainfall and abundant food.
