An election denier who tried to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss is facing scrutiny over his new role in the Justice Department as part of a team investigating the president’s foes.

An NBC News reporter’s comments about California’s elections and the 2020 presidential race caused President Trump to storm out of their interview Sunday. Kristen Welker sparred with the commander-in-chief over his claims the state’s voting was rigged as the counting continues and Democrat candidates suddenly enjoy a late stream of votes from mail-in ballots.

Anchor Welker noted Republicans had performed competitively in California's June 2 primary elections and explained the state's vote-counting process often takes several days to complete. Trump responded by alleging that delays in counting votes were evidence of wrongdoing.
